Wooven “Prosperous Elephant” Batik Tote

The Elephant tote is Wooven's largest bag, as the name implies, and equally strong. The body is made of durable recycled cotton canvas and is highlighted with indigo batik accents. Leather straps with canvas backing for strength. Orange cotton lining with inside zippered pocket.

The batik is custom made for Wooven by the Hmong in northern Vietnam. The elephant footprint on the bag is the traditional Hmong symbol for “prosperity”. But Laos, once known as the Land of a Million Elephants, is prosperous no more. Less than 10,000 remain and most of those are in captivity. Hundreds are still shipped every year to zoos in China and hundreds more are slaughtered. Wooven thinks something must change. They will be supporting an existing elephant refuge in Laos this year, after we complete a review of the opportunities to help.
